I'm reading the third part of the third volume of The Red Wheel.

It is the dude's worst book, I think. The writing is laughable. Especially the erotic scenes. There's one scene where he describes it metaphorically, and it all consists of a wounded amazon riding her horse and then bleeding to death. I literally jumped up and ran laughing through my flat after reading this.

The historical research is incredibly detailed, though. It sure required a shitload of work.
