I mostly care about the commentary. If you're funny and entertaining, I don't give a shit about the technical side of things - and it can be more entertaining watching people fuck up. As long as you roll with it and make it more of a "look at the ridiculous fun things that are happening" rather than "I want to show off this game and am so pro at it." In terms of recording quality, again, it's not important to me, but I also think... I mean, it's not required, and if you have whatever practical or financial limitations it may not be possible, but it's worth trying to do it as well as you can, and taking some time to figure out ways you can improve the recording, and the whole thing, and taking it seriously - not in terms of playing it well, but in terms of making sure that you're putting out the best end result that's possible given your time and money and equipment.

And of course even whatever you do, those comments are totally unacceptable, but Internet, I guess.

For the longest time, I had something called an Easycap. Decent 480p/720p picture quality, but there was this semi-annoying/semi-horrid audio feedback that was a constant hurdle to overcome (when I recorded console footage). I do however, keep experimenting and trying to come up with better ways to fix/record my footage.

Personally, I don't do commentary, but that's due to a) not liking the sound of my own recorded voice and b) not really having much to say that I couldn't just say in the description. And since it doesn't really add anything to it, I just leave it out so people can just sit back and enjoy some gameplay footage.

Well, see - and I don't mean to be harsh, and again, let me reiterate that the kind of criticism you've been getting is totally inappropriate and completely out of proportion to the importance of any of this and you have my sympathy.

But I think that, to some extent, if the purpose of your LP is to show off the game and the story, it does behoove you to some extent to have the technical and gameplay capacity to do that. If people are coming for the content of the game, specifically, it might kind of matter how well they're able to see it. And similarly it's kind of important that you're at least good enough to show off the content of the game in a consistent way, if showing off the game is your intent. Just my 2 cents though.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8rwZP8PNWY - recorded with easycap, then run through deinterlacing and smooth resize using Virtualdub, then made into a 720p video so the 360/480 options would look as good as possible. (cutscene at 15:23)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtSrXdWpeJc - recorded with gamebridge, then same process (only output at 360p).
