The story I heard about the Latin terms is that it was some BNF's thing, and it kind of spread from them. This would be a while ago, probably before the first Bay movie.

"Pede" always really annoyed me, like way more than any of the other terms, for some reason. Possibly because robots don't always have stuff like tongues or teeth, but they always have feet of some kind, so why can't we just call them feet? Why do we have to have a super speshul term that I don't even know how to pronounce?

But I could listen to people talk alt-mode terminology all day long. I love when people throw it in, and I usually have good luck with the authors getting it right. Tell me more about your horizontal stabilizers, baby.

Especially when they're called 'feet' and 'hands' and things in canon. If a simple plebian term like 'arm' is good enough for Starscream, it's good enough for me.

Honestly the first thing that occurred to me when I read "pede" was "nickname for pedophile." Lol.

As I remember it (fuzzy) it came from the writings of Koi Lungfish. Well, at least "glossa". Probably snowballed from there with a definite rise in popularity after the Bay-former movies.
