That being said, it's also not fair or kind to confront people with things that make them uncomfortable. So if fans do that to creators/performers and get an unpleasant response, they don't have a right to complain.

It sounds like that's exactly what happened, so I'm not sure what your problem is. Asking an actor how he feels about porn of his children's movie character is pretty much guaranteed to get a bad reaction - if someone is too dense and/or fandom-insulated to figure that out on their own then they pretty much deserve to be made to feel bad about their shitty behavior.
