I think the problem is the very...dualistic thinking that Tumblr seems to enjoy. It encourages extremes, and it tends to have a "on or the other, no third door and no middle ground" mentality to it. Something like Depression or PTSD isn't something to be ashamed of. But at the same time it's not something to be embraced, either, and being not-ashamed of them should never stop someone for seeking help.

Plus, there is a strong glorification of self hatred that is really upsetting.

It strikes me as really funny that some people on Tumblr will encourage others to be more confident in themselves and not let their disorders or whatever get them down...but once you achieve confidence, suddenly you are privileged or arrogant or otherwise wrong for being confident.

Anything less than self-debasement is arrogance.

Though, to be fair, that sort of thinking can be applied to real life - i.e. every girl is assumed to have serious body image issues and thus encouraged to think of themselves as beautiful, yet once they do they are suddenly arrogant for it. *eyeroll* Story of my life.
