Yup. A lot of it just depends on where you are and what your local culture thinks of fandom, but I will say at least that in certain parts of America, finding out you're the only fandom person somewhere wouldn't be unusual at all. And that's just fandom in general, it can often be very difficult to find someone who is heavily involved in your fandom (which is my problem - it's easy for me to find people who are in fandom, but I almost never find anyone who is actually in my fandom).
