I spent my senior year of high school lurking only /r9k/, which is always depressing. Made me okay with not socializing and gave me a horrible opinion of males. I wouldn't say Tumblr brought me out of my shell, because I didn't make an account or take part in the community, but it did encourage me to start talking to people again. It's probably a bad sign when Tumblr cures your misandry.

Yeah, /r9k/ is The Worst and has been for a long time. Especially in regards to misanthropy, and it's so unhealthy to post there. The atmosphere is just poisonous. I think it's actively harmful to anyone who posts there. I quit it a long time ago because of that same basic thing. And just recently I've pretty much stopped posting on 4chan entirely, and I think that's for the best. Most boards aren't as bad as /r9k/, and some of them can be decent places to talk about things (/co/, /tg/, /ck/, and /trv/ spring to mind as halfway-decent boards) but the whole attitude of the place is just corrosive, I think.
