Re: Why is death considered the easy way out?

Because suicide is never about the person committing suicide. You commit suicide and you're dead, the lights aren't on, the clock's not ticking, etc. It's everyone else who has to live with the knowledge that their friend/child/sibling/parent/coworker/student/teacher killed themselves, and if they actually gave a damn about that person, they won't be okay for years, if ever. Why would you deliberately screw up a person who loves you?

There are extenuating circumstances where I think suicide is okay, but for your example, where there are clearly loved ones involved? It's selfish.

Maybe it's selfish of those loved ones to want that one person to keep living when they don't want to. I mean, if we're calling people selfish.

If you don't want to keep living, then don't. But if you don't clean up your mess before you go, and you leave it for your grieving family to clean up when you're gone, then yeah, I call that selfish.

SA. That comment was harsh, and I'm sorry.

I really do understand how sometimes people can feel that death is the only way out. But I think if you can see the carnage that is sometimes left behind, you can also see why people think it is selfish. I know people commit suicide because they are in pain, but it just seems to beget more pain that is visited on others.

I know they don't always think of that, or that they're in too much personal pain to care, and yet, even if you understand some of the rationale of the person who wants to commit suicide, it's very hard not to be angry about it.

And, to clarify, I'm referring to people who commit suicide for emotional reasons rather than having a terminal illness where you know the end is imminent.
