Do you prefer fanart or fanfic?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-23 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Inspired a secret. Pretty straight forward question, I hope.

I'm more of a fanart person. I'm really fond of pixel art and pencil art in particular.

I'm in love with images. So I go through all the fanart on AO3, regardless of fandoms. If it's pretty, I feel a little bit happier than I was a moment before that.

That being said, I don't really have a preference... perhaps fanart is easier to consume, that's all. So I won't bother to read an overly long fic the subject of which is only of some interest to me, but I'll take a look at fanart which pictures something I have no interest for whatsoever.

Fanart.

I love fic, but it takes a lot more time and energy to appreciate than fanart. Time and energy I could spend reading actual books.

Art.

I rarely read fanfic, depends on what it's about.

Totally depends on my mood. I'm a very visual person and adore art, but reading is one of my most favourite things.

I like both, honestly, but I seek out fanfiction more than I seek out fanart. I appreciate good fanart, but for shipping I prefer fanfic, if that makes sense.

I love both but enjoy well written shipping fic more than anything else, fandom wise. Art is lovely too, especially if it's in comic form, but there doesn't tend to be as much of it either. (At least in the fandoms I participate in.)

Fanfics.

Fanart is much quicker and easier to appreciate. I'll look at almost any piece of art related to my fandoms (so long as it isn't focused on a character/pairing I hate).

I'm far pickier with fanfic. I only want to read about my favorite characters/pairings, and a lot of fics won't meet my standards. But if I find a really good one, I'll treasure it more than any piece of art.

Fanfic. A good fic can move me to tears, infuriate me, arouse me, or any other number of reactions. Words just mean more to me. Fanart doesn't usually have enough context for me to give a shit, but occasionally some really nice pieces will get a "that's pretty" from me.

Comics are the best of both worlds, though. :)

Fic, for the most part. I absolutely love traditional line-art, but I have a very good eye for proportion, so if something is off, I usually can't not notice it.

For creating, also fic. I do draw a little, but I don't have a scanner, image editing programs, or other tools to post decent fanfic. Fanfic is more accessible; you just type.

You know that saying "a picture's worth a thousand words"? I agree with it, mostly, but I don't think most pieces of fanart say those thousand words well.

So...fanfiction, unless we're talking some really top-of-the-line art.

I like fanart of fanfic.

BEST OF BOTH WORLDS!

i like both, but i forget fanart easily.if it's a good fic,it can make me remember it for days

Re: Do you prefer fanart or fanfic?

I prefer consuming fanart over fanfic just because if its bad fanart, I know right away and can just skip it, but I don't always know when something is a bad fanfic until I've wasted a few minutes reading it. And since a lot of fanfic is just gratingly bad, I have a hard time bringing myself to even bother.

On the other hand, I much prefer to create fanfic than fanart. While I do get it in me to draw an idea out every once in a while, it's generally crappy. I can do a decent job with getting an idea out in fanfic, though, so I prefer that.

Roughly equal, although I have significantly more fanart saved. I love getting into a good long fic, but there is the whole time issue...

I like whatever is harder to find in a given fandom. Like if there's lots of fanart I want fanfic and if there's lots of fanfic available I want fanart..

Fanfic. I like (good) fanart, but I generally find fanfic is a longer experience and I get to "learn" something new or experience characters in a certain way I hadn't before. I feel like art is more fleeting and there's less to get out of it when it comes to stories and characterization.

Best scenario: Fanfic with accompanying art.

I can't choose between one or the other... they're both good for different purposes.

Why not both? :D I do tend to lean towards fanfic because they keep me occupied longer.

Re: Do you prefer fanart or fanfic?

I..can go either way? When I have the time, a really well written fic will make me happier than any fanart - but if I don't have the time, or it's between mediocre fic and fanart? I'm good either way.

Re: Do you prefer fanart or fanfic?

I love both. Which one I spend more time on varies by fandom. Some fandoms have really amazing fic but shit art and vice versa.

Fanfic. I adore a good piece of fanart and frequently go looking for them, but I find reading and imagining everything happening much more enjoyable - and it lasts longer.

Fic. Art will make me go 'ooh, pretty' for a bit if it's good, but fic is generally what I crave more. I think I prefer reading about the dynamics to seeing a still. Interaction is key and all.
