Wtf am I the only one who has no problems with tumblr? I keep seeing these horror stories and never encountered them. I feel like most people are just being dramatic or going out of their way to follow idiots and whine about it or something..The worst thing that happened to be is an irl friend who I followed on tumblr who had no idea what shipping and freaked out on me.

I've seen some 'horror stories' unfold on Tumblr, but that's only really been in certain tags. I've never had it on my dash, and you quickly learn where to go/not go if you want to find/avoid wank. Ultimately, you make your own Tumblr experience by choosing who to follow, and if your dash is covered in stuff you don't want to see, it's your own damn fault. So, yeah. I agree that people are just being dramatic and frankly this site's collective hateboner for Tumblr is just tiring.

Tumblr Rule #1: don't track tags. Ever.

Tumblr Rule #2: use tumblr savior

Tumblr Rule #3: in case #2 fails, don't follow people who irritate you. If you like their work or something, figure out some other way to consume it.

Tumblr Rule #4: if you ever have trouble with asshole anons, don't reply to them and disable anon comments.

Tumblr Rule #5: if you break these rules, or awfulness still leaks through to you in spite of them, don't read other people's screaming-at-the-void opinions.

Tumblr Rule #6: if you ill-advisedly or inadvertently read those opinions, resist the urge to reblog them with a rant telling them that They are Wrong and to Stand there in Their Wrongness and Be Wrong. No matter how tempted you are.

The more I see people hating on tumblr around here, the more I start liking it just out of contrariness.

No but seriously, I used to dislike tumblr, but reading discussions about it on f!s made me realize that LJ-type sites have their downsides too and that tumblr might actually suit my interacting style better. (Now if only I could understand how to tumblr.)

And there really aren't any more idiots there than there are anywhere else. Wank has always existed and will always exist no matter where you go.

Biggest shit that got on my dash was when there was a post that got around every where about a dude who was supposedly going to go to the con coming up and assault girls or something. Guy explained real story and was getting death threats because the girl posted his picture and name.
I really wouldn't have minded the whole thing despite it being local comm drama, but it spread to where even my friend irl somehow heard about it and was worried.
Problems happen because of mob mentality on tumblr.

I like it. I had an easier time making friends there than on LJ, and they're pretty great people.

Obviously there's a shitty side to it, but it's not as hard to avoid as some people make it seem. They're just whinning, tbh; I feel that if they really cared about the problems they see on tumblr they'd be more willing to point out the actual problem, not the site as a whole. Basically, I'm not impressed at their cheap shot at superiority.

Nope, only thing that makes me rage now and then is people not putting the source. Fucks sake people.

I have quite a few, haha, but I think that's mostly a combination of bad luck/poor judge of character/being too timid to unfollow people I'd really be better off unfollowing. I don't go on the site anymore-it was just enabling my procrastination far too much- but most of my friends seem to really enjoy it, and I don't think my experience was the typical one.

It's mostly a personal preference thing, IMO, and I wish people on both sides of the argument would be a little less hyperbolic about it.

I only follow celebrity-centered or fandom-centered blogs anymore. Sometimes there's wank because they're maintained by real people, but mostly it's fanarts, photos or gifs. I feel like I could probably do better and filter even more shit but that would require an account and I'm too lazy to make one.

your experience on tumblr is going to be as enjoyable as you make it. since i'm not one of those masochists who follows people who post shit that i hate, i enjoy my time on that site.

The worst I've had there is people reblogging graphics I've made so they can whine about how wrong the ships/characters in them are (I can count the amount of times this has happened on both hands). Apparently, though, this is just something some people on tumblr like to do, which I don't really understand.

The people I follow are nhf any drama so my dashboard is always nice and happy. I did have to unfollow a few people who just whine all the time.

I have massive problems with their web design philosophy, but that's entirely different.

-shrugs- Personally, I don't care for tumblr because stuff that seems to sweep through the fandoms I'm in as a whole is it *does* is aggravating to see mass reblogged 'SIGN THIS PETITIION' or 'THIS -insert flavor of the week's hated politician- PERSON IS HORRIBLE, NO GOOD -etc, with the bashing-' since you see it on the fandom tags/people don't always tag what it is, etc.

Nah, I don't really. There are a few things here and there that bug me, but honestly if I flipped at every single damn thing that bothered me I'd be a constant ball of rage and hate. And Hulksmash isn't a very good thing on me, especially since I weigh 145 lbs soaking wet.

I have a few friends who post so much social justice stuff it kind of grates on my nerves but literally the majority of it is just news stories so it's not too bad. Most of it is just people in fandoms I share or art blogs and music blogs so it's not that bad? Aside from the shitty interface (commenting back and forth is ANNOYING) I don't see the problem
