I've never had to think about it, when I've worked I have always had a 30 min lunch break, then again I've never worked more than 8 hours (or 7h30m of working I guess), because that is the law.

If you are interested in Norwegian labour laws continue reading, if not just ignore this and go on with your lives, I suggest you do the latter.

In Norway you can't by law* work more than 9 hours every 24 hours and/or 40* hours a week.

After working 5h30m, you have a right to at least 30 min paid break (if you can't leave work) 30 min unpaid if you can leave. If you work overtime you have a right to an additional 30 min of paid break.

*Exceptions are made for some jobs and also over a short amount of time. Overtime is also something that can only happen in extraordinary situations, if it is a regular thing they have to hire another worker.
*37,5 is the usual work week though.

Wow, I work about 60 hours in a week, I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I had to cut it to 40! :O
