When I worked a job that had breaks/lunch (current job is just sort of "work whenever you want to, stop working whenever you want to, keep a log of your hours"), I always just worked right through until halfway through my shift, then took one of my 15-minute breaks, then waited until the last two hours of my shift to take my unpaid lunch and the other 15 minute break.

The store managers hated it for some reason, even though that meant I was on the floor during the hours we were busy, and took most of my breaks when business was slowing down for the night. I really didn't get it. But I'm with you, I'd rather just get the work over with and leave.
