Re: Movies you've seen this week?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-24 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
The only film I've watched this week (in whole at least, usually I channel surf between movies on the movie channels and episodes of "Chopped" or something when I'm watching tv) is "Chandni".
I fangirl squeed when I realized it was one of the Bollywood films I loved as a child that I had watched dubbed in my language (because if I was Indian I'm sure I wouldn't have been so clueless about this film). I had forgotten about this film completely, and came across this movie by pure chance. I was surfing around Netflix for Bollywood films to put into my Instant Queue a few weeks back (a hobby of mine since I just started getting back into Bollywood films like 5 years ago) and I saw "Chandni" and thought, "Let's see if this old one is good," because I honestly like the older Bollywood films more.
So here I was this Saturday morning, after 12 hours of work and about an hour of driving in terrible snow covered streets, I decide to finally check out one of the old Bollywood films I had saved onto my Instant Queue. When Rishi's Kapoor's character reveals to Sridevi's character that he had adorned all the walls of his room with pictures he took of her I squeed and exclaimed to myself, "OH MY GOSH THIS IS ONE OF THOSE MOVIES I LOVED AS A KID!" Watching it over again, I was like...so happy and filled with nostalgia. I loved that I only remember bits and pieces of this film because I wanted to know what would happen next and how the film would play out when I watched it.
I generally base my love of Bollywood movies more on the music and dance numbers, and this one is one of the great ones. LOVE the music and Sridevi's dance numbers in this film reminded me of how much I wanted to dance like her, Madhuri Dixit, and Juhi Chawla when I was a kid. This film didn't have flashy and big dance numbers but all we needed was Sridevi's dance skills in this movie. I had no idea this film is a super iconic film until I read up on it on Wiki later today. But another thing that makes this film stand out is that the story is engaging, which is kind of hard to do in most Bollywood films. Many seem contrived or a little too melodramatic for my liking. This movie is pretty melodramatic but it's believable because the actors did a great job, and the music goes well with the film.
Sorry for the tl;dr fangirl rant. My best friend and I were on the phone discussing this movie, and we began spewing about old Bollywood films we want to see again but can't find. He and I do this from time to time.
