This was sort of the attitude I got from fandom before Tumblr was around. People on Tumblr mostly complain about gay stereotyping and such, there are tags for each pairing and in the fandoms I've seen, no one has made comments like this, even in mxm tags. The attitude seems to be "ship and let ship because I'm not going to that shipping tag anyway."

Also, considering how many of the girls identify as lesbian/bi/pan, I don't imagine the site would be full of hate for fxf pairings. Sounds more like an issue within specific fandoms.

Eh, I think it's a bit more common than that since most of the fandoms I've interacted with? Have had that attitude to some degree. Granted, some where fandoms where the girls in the series were developed into obnoxious followers who constantly bugged the main character or moe blobs [in the canon work, no help from fandom needed!] or had little to no developement as a whole...but even in ones where the girls were awesome? Still there, just maybe not quite as much.
