Re: Dream career
The UK lets you volunteer doing the actual job (as in you will hold the office of constable with the same rights and responsibilities) if you can set aside the time for training, and meet the requirements. And I've heard other places do similar schemes. Worth considering if possible to get you a feel for what it's like to be out on the beat.
Great career if you can get it - decent pay, varied work, great pension, solid job security, etc, and you honestly might find yourself surprised by just what you're capable of.
Oh and go for a force in a major city if at all possible.
