I gotta be honest. I think using the same actors to portray different races as reincarnations of the same "soul" is... a pretty cool idea. I haven't seen the movie, but that concept really intrigues me. As I understand, the cast has actors from a variety of races, doesn't it? Not just white people? And the theme of the "same people" is pretty huge, so I don't get how this is racist. Having an actor play a character of a different race IS bad, for erasing minorities and being insincere, etc. But this seems like a pretty clear non-racist example and racebends for artistic and thematic reasons?

Not that roles couldn't have been cast again in the different races, but tbh, it's cool to know that it's the "same" person in different roles.

The vast majority of the major cast was white.

I can appreciate the themes of unity and transcendence in this movie, and even though I cringed at the trailer, I loved the book, so I gave the movie a fair shot. The intentions were good, the execution was not, because when they did casting, that did erase minorities, since there was an opportunity for Asians (aside from Bae Doona and Zhou Xun) to be cast in major roles, and instead we got white actors in Asian makeup.

Given that Asian-American actors/creators already have an uphill battle in the film industry with getting roles or works out there, the racebending in this movie was disappointing.
