Wow, that's really not what that word means. People use it like that? I've only seen it used in the sense of "No, being a woman does not mean you're unable to have misogynist thoughts or say or do misogynist things".

I think it's extrapolated from that. A woman can still be a misogynist, therefore if a woman says something that could be construed as misogynistic, she obviously has internalized misogyny. And while this may hold true sometimes, it's also just as likely that the thing she said wasn't misogynistic at all. I think I've also seen arguments here and there that trans guys are "just" suffering from internalized misogyny and if they just examined that, they wouldn't hate being a woman so much! (Spoiler: this is utter bullshit.)

Yuck. Yeah, I've heard of that line of reasoning too . It's really just standard transphobia dressed up in bad psychology. :(
