Exactly.

People call the little comments JMurph made queerbaiting but I think he was telling the truth while pretending to lie so that people didn't go "WHY DIDN'T YOU MAKE IT CANON DURING THE ACTUAL SHOOOOOOW??? AHJGFDSBGKFSBGHSDF."

There's no way you can watch that show and not believe that the writer shipped it, even if they did also ship other things.

I never really thought of it as queerbaiting (that is to say, it wasn't half as bad as Sherlock). They just truly, genuinely loved each other in a platonic way?

Which doesn't stop me from reading every M/A fanfic that comes my way :D

Yea, but people are all like 'WHY COULDN'T THEY SAY THEY LOVED EACH OTHER ON THE SHOW??' and were pissed whenever there was a seriously suggestive moment to that effect that never explicitly said it. They kept saying the writers were queerbaiting.

I honestly have no problem with them never saying it. Almost every meaningful moment they had said they loved each other. Even from the early days. I've seen movies where a male/female canon pairing never said they loved each other, never kissed, never even touched intimately and it was beyond clear that they loved each other and were in love. So explicit stating never mattered for M/A,

There were moments when I genuinely expected them to say "I love you", and I gotta say, in early seasons I could almost convince myself that they would take A/M all the way, so to speak. But I can't really be mad - many things disappointed me in this show, but A/M was always going strong. And I agree that the affection was so obvious they never really had to state it out loud.

I have no idea about the writers true intentions or not, but I do know that I fucking died when Arthur and Gwen's love theme started playing during various Arthur/Merlin scenes in the finale.

It's not the full thing, but there are hints of it when Merlin tells Arthur that lots of people are born to do different things and that he was born to serve him. Either that or there's another song on the soundtrack with a near identical violin melody.

SO JUST KNOW I AM THINKING OF THE FINALE AND BEING SAD RIGHT NOW.

That gif of Arthur never fails to crack me up. Those two are a ridiculous, ridiculous couple. I was doing a Merlin rewatch after the finale (and loving it) before I got distracted by video games.

What are your favorite shows from childhood? (I always want to rewatch things but usually don't finish. *sigh*)

Oh, that finale...It wasn't perfect but those fuckers now how to evoke some feelz. I miss those boys like whoa. I wish there was more coming :(

I love them so much. Seriously, they're wonderful. They may be all I need out of fandom.

Right now I'm rewatching Rugrats. I finished Rocko's Modern Life and Hey Arnold. Started in on Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers but got distracted by life. May go back to that some time. Also watch the Sabrina the Teenage Witch cartoon from time to time.

No, not perfect, but I'm not gonna lie...heartbreak aside, it was one of my favorite episodes of the series. Maybe the favorite. My Merlin/Arthur feelings admittedly might have something to do with that though.

They are, yea. It wasn't until the show was over and I looked back on them that I realized how much their relationship meant to me. I didn't think I was going to miss them as much. :(

Oh wow, you watched the same things I did. It's been too long for me to remember the show clearly, but I LOVED Rocko's Modern Life. Rugrats was good too, and I liked Power Rangers but was more of a Sabrina fan. Do the shows stand the test of time?

Oh, absolutely. Rugrats is still just as amazing. Rocko actually got BETTER now that I'm old enough to understand all the horribly inappropriate innuendo they loaded into it haha. And Power Rangers is just a smashing mix of 'I used to like this???' + so bad that it's good + nostalgia haha
