I only just recently learned that, apparently, Sucker Punch originally had a sexual scene in it (not actual sex) that the MPAA kept wanting them to cut. So it was heavily edited, and made Emily Browning's character go from willing to sexual acts, to appearing as though she wasn't consenting and the guy was forcing himself on her - that's when it got the rating they wanted.

I'm glad they scrapped it altogether, but damnit, this shit frustrates me. All it does is motivate me to getting my ass further in the film industry. It calms me down knowing Geena Davis exists though <3

It's not even that graphic at ALL, it's just that she's enjoying herself and we can't have that. Same thing happened with Trainspotting.

Fucking MPAA. I interned at Cannes that year Blue Valentine screened there, so followed the shitstorm around that pretty closely (which also boiled down to "female sexuality is bad!") and just came away disgusted with the whole ratings system.

Geena Davis is just the best, seriously.

There is just so much that needs to be changed. It's ridiculous, and that's a wild understatement.

She really is the best. She is everything beautiful to me.

One of the reasons I swoon over Emily Browning is over her response to that censorship. ("I think that it's great for this young girl to actually take control of her own sexuality. Well, the MPAA doesn't like that. They don't think a girl should ever be in control of her own sexuality because they're from the Stone Age ... I don't know what the fuck is going on and I will openly criticize it, happily.")

I hate the MPAA and wouldn't be surprised if their logic is totally different from mine, but I do think the scene would be much more problematic by being "consensual" (if it even could be called that that) because of the specific characters, context and power dynamics involved.
