It should have been John Stewart. It's ridiculous that it wasn't John Stewart. He's the Green Lantern with whom the key demographic grew up. Everyone who wasn't asking 'who the hell is the Green Lantern?' was asking 'why the hell is Green Lantern white?'

But I hear we're killing off John Stewart next in the New-52 cull of diversity, so I guess the next time they reboot there won't be that problem. Blah.

I was going with middle-class males aged 18 - 25. Traditionally, that's meant to be the only demographic anyone making a superhero movie panders to, right?

John Stewart was the GL of the JL cartoon from '01 to '06 (Wiki tells me), which'd surely be about right.

Okay. I figured I wasn't that key demographic anyway, but yeah that seals it. I'm much more familiar with Hal Jordan, but I only had a small window into GL and have more of a general familiarity than a hardcore fan.

I just read this comment thinking you meant John Stewart from the Daily Show should have played John Stewart as Green Lantern. I spent a whole three seconds trying to figure out how that would have fixed the white thing and why you thought John Stewart could pull off a superhero summer blockbuster.

I don't know anything about the Green Lantern, so I was wondering why you spelled Jon Stewart's name wrong for a second.

I like Stewart way more than Captain Wonderbread myself but let's not kid ourselves: Hal Jordan is far more famous than Stewart ever was. Stewart was a relative unknown until the cartoon, which isn't even that old.

What they should have done is a story with all three of the original pre-Crisis Lanterns.

I'm not sure it could have been John Stewart because then you'd get a ton of people in the theaters expecting Jon Stewart from The Daily Show to save the world with a glowing ring, and then it would get bad word-of-mouth from those people, and then the SJWs would freak out if it didn't do well... You get the picture.

That said, now I'm imagining Stephen Colbert as Sinestro, and I'm enjoying it immensely. Thank you for that. :D
