I don't follow SPN -- I tried a few early episodes, and the show wasn't for me -- so I can't speak to Ackles' work on it.

But I had a chance to see an audition tape he did before SPN for something else, and some raws from an episode for another show. And yeah, the guy can act. Not all the actors you see on tv can (good editing can do an amazing job of covering up for the ones who can't), but Ackles is really, really good. His fans may be obnoxious about it, but that shouldn't be a reflection on him.

Agreed. I don't even watch Supernatural, but I've seen some of the "best of" clips in my time, and the man has got some skills. More than me, in any case. :)
