Well now that you've said it you know someone's gonna take that as a challenge.

In all seriousness, I thought this secret was in reaction to a recent "OMFG why would you do that?" moment but it seems not. I don't know whether to be relieved or horrified?

Be relieved. The last mess I heard about was the time someone showed the actors a half-naked photoshop. So I guess it's a good thing that nothing major has happened after that.

Oh man. I've heard of fans doing that. I can never understand why they would want to.

But yeah, I guess I'll be relieved. For now. For as long as it lasts.

Wasn't he egging people on and saying they could beat the other couple in that contest? I could have sworn I saw tweets of his circulating around asking people to vote.

Unless... they were shopped and I didn't notice or we're talking about a different poll.

it is possible, in which case it's alright, i guess? i still think shipping should stay out of actors' conciousnesss (unless they actively search stuff out)

I like to keep shipping hush-hush but it never seems to be a secret.

Because it's never a secret I always tend to wonder where the line is on what can and can't be discussed with that actors/writers/etc. I mean, stuff like sending them fic or photoshopped pictures I know crosses that line for me. That's an obvious "no". But what about more benign stuff? Say, you know the writer knows about a ship. In the series you notice the two characters of that ship are interacting more and more. Is it okay to ask the writer if they're listening/pandering to the fans of that ship in a small way or just doing their own thing? It seems like a simple and non-invasive question. It also helps shippers not read too much into a scene if a writer gives either answer.

So I never really know in that grey area. I've never asked such questions, granted. I don't ever try to initiate any kind of communication with people on TV shows I like. But whenever I see a fan pose a question like that or do something similar in what I describe as this grey area it always makes me wonder what side of the line it falls on.
