Femslash

Hey! I've been kind of wanting to find some femslash/lesbian media lately, but I really don't know where to start. Searching it just gets me fanfiction and porn, and I'm looking more for pg romance/slice-of-life sorts of things where it's a part of canon or at least strongly hinted.

Could anyone rec me anything?

Well, if you're into sci-fi and/or anime, I'd definitely recommend Simoun!

And if you feel like reading original stories, check out the special issues over at http://bb-shousetsu.livejournal.com

Thanks! I'll definitely check both of those out.

How do you feel about anime or manga?

Aoi Hana and Girlfriends are wonderful imo. Also, Puella Magi Madoka is basically a love story, and the fandom kind of makes fluff to offset the. The stuff.

Also, have you visited AfterEllen?

I love anime and manga! I'll definitely check those first two out, I've tried watching Puella Magi Madoka before but didn't get very far but maybe I'll try again.

I haven't visited there, but I will now. Thanks. :)

You must start with But I'm a Cheerleader, and immediately follow it with D.E.B.S. Actually D.E.B.S. is probably more what you're looking for, it's a romantic comedy set in a world where spy schools and supervillains are a thing.

Read Fingersmith.

Watch/read Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl, if it's okay with you that the main character was a boy who became a girl through supernatural means.

If you're interested in foreign films, check out Fire, The Journey, and Spider Lillies.

Fried Green Tomatoes--the movie is stronger, plotwise, but in the book the romance is more obvious. They downplayed it in the movie to make it more mainstream, but it's definitely there.

Exes and Ohs is a cute, short series that you can probably find online.

Most of these do have sex scenes but it's different from your typical male-gazey porn.

Also check out the entertainment section of http://www.autostraddle.com/ from time to time. Although they have recommended some shitty things, iirc.

Also: get The Essential Dykes to Watch Out For.

eta: Pretty Little Liars also has a gay main character and actual onscreen girls kissing. I personally have a little trouble getting into it but you may like it!

Don't know about the fandom side of things, but I'd recommend the Batwoman comic and her issues of Detective Comics from a couple of years back.

SVU doesn't have much femslash in canon ("strongly hinted" is in the eye of the beholder, but let's just say you don't have to look very hard), but the fandom is chock full of it.

I just started watching Bodacious Space Pirates (anime) on Crunchyroll. It's adorable, minimal to nonexistent fanservice, and I've read on several sources that it has lesbians in it. It's definitely been females w/agency (mom and daughter consisted of daughter learning to shoot a BFG from her former pirate mom). It's 26 eps, iirc, and I'm only on ep 7.

Ever watch Utena? It's very subtexty and it's canon in the movie (not sure how understandable movie is w/o watching the series though).

There's always L Word, it's a soap opera about the lives of lesbians living in LA. I liked it, mostly.

There's always Xena: Warrior Princess, which is very, very subtexty almost text. They had lesbian writers on the staff who would slip in moments/scenes from their own lives. Also, be sure to check out the fanfic for Xena, if you want. Esp. Uber fic; google Xena Uber fic and you'll find links. Uber fic is Xena fandom's term for AU fic; a lot of the fic even changes their names and it reads more like original lesbian fic than Au femslash fic in a lot of the cases. like this one: http://xenafiction.net/styles/athenaeum_deepblue/author_pages/cephalgiaandmj.html and choose Black's Magic.

I've not time yet to watch it, but Yes or No, is Thailand's first lesbian movie. Looks cute. There's even a Yes or No 2 out now. English subbed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GdIvTeSAU4

Do you care about watching clips from other series? Some incredibly helpful people on YT w/takes clips from soap operas that have depict the lesbian relationship(s) from there countries and sub them in English. Err, they take the scenes w/the lesbians in them and dub them. There's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4ze_TugM2s which shows the Pepa Silva relationship aka Pepsi. One's a police officer, the other the coroner/forensics, iirc. There's Tierra de Lobos; don't recall the ep that started the lesbian relationship, but they dubbed the entire episodes: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2F8E645200C48173

There's a webseries: The Newtown Girl's http://www.youtube.com/user/TheNewtownGirls/videos?view=0 that's lesbian and very funny.

And don't forget the Okazu and Yuricon: http://okazu.yuricon.com/ Erica writes reviews of yuri/shoujo-ai themed media. She's also published some yuri.

Each year a Best Lesbian Erotica volume comes out. Not all the stories are always to my taste, but I usually find some good/interesting short stories there.
