I thought it was intentionally predatory. The body language Derek was giving off was ott sexual and CREEEEEEPY but in the dub-con sort of way I see in fanfic and other stories about young women wanting to be dominated by a stronger guy. If I ever got the inkling that I was supposed to think that scene was okay, positive, acceptable behaviour, I'd have probably dropped the show tbh.

It could have been and I'm just not giving the writers enough credit. But then that brings up a whole slew of different problems. Like, what is Derek doing, wasn't he a rape victim? (Is that why he's doing it? Because he doesn't understand the difference or something?) Why when the two dudes get bites it's ambiguous as to whether it's good or bad but for the chick it's not? Why is the chick the only one to get the sexual bite? Why was this never really brought up again?

Like... either way you look at it there are problems. Plus one anon said they advertised it as Derek's love scene or something?

I think it's more that I'm the one giving the show too much credit because I want to hope that it will ever acknowledge how terrible it's characters can be. I mean, what was that with Derek essentially "seducing" Erica into taking the bite, and then acting as if he wasn't purposefully leading her on during the "MWAH you need to stop macking on me" scene? I keep waiting for some character to say something, to lampshade anything, but apparently that's going to be Peter's job.

Because as much as Jeff Davis likes to spout on about how Teen Wolf takes place in a world where sexism, racism, and misogyny whatever, doesn't exist, he doesn't actually write a world without any of that.

Yeah, I wish for the same thing you do but I doubt it will. Especially with what I've heard about Erica for season three. I think the best we can hope for is our own headcanons or a good fic writer to cover it.

(Can Lydia be a werewolf now already? Retcon that immunity junk because Lydia was such a missed opportunity in season two.)
