Re: Whatcha playin'?

I really like it! I'm not great with games so I wanted something fun and relatively easy, and hack-and-slashes generally fit that bill for me. It's really silly and cheesy (well, you're a chainsaw-wielding, zombie-fighting cheerleader, I'm not sure how not-cheesy you could make it) and sort of shallow/nonsensical, but it knows all that and it works for me. It does have some elements I know some people might not like (e.g. misogynist slurs,) but the way they're used in the game doesn't bug me.

The only thing I don't like are the mini-games and Quick Time Events. The former because I really just wanted to hack-and-slash around (in which case I guess I should just load Drakengard,) and the latter because, in general, I just don't like QTEs. And also because I just want to pom-pom zombies in the face.

Can I assume from your icon you've played Bayonetta? I've wanted to play it for a while, but I never find it at the price I want. How'd you like it?

Hehe, silly sounds about right. (Which I have no problem with. Sometimes silly is just what you need, not to mention incredibly gratifying if done correctly!)

QTE's are awful (And I'm awful at them tbh), but I've accepted that they're a part of gaming that's here to stay. :( (Okay, so there are moments where QTE's work well {Metal Gear Rising}, but usually they're just annoying.)

I looked up the game yesterday after reading your comment and was surprised to find it for $20. SO CHEAP. I might pick if up soonish because it sounds right up my alley. I'm glad you're enjoying it, btw. :)

And Bayonetta is a lot of what you described. It's definitely silly, cheesy and nonsensical; doesn't take itself too seriously, and there's lots of hacking and slashing. However the big difference is that it's not easy. At all. Well, to me (and quite a few others) it isn't. There IS an easy mode that's supposed to practically play itself but I haven't tried it. That said, I played on normal and though I had great difficulty with all the (frankly insane) bosses AND many of the regular enemies, after a while you get better. Just takes skill or lots of practice. It is tons of fun though. Bayonetta herself is a hoot and the gameplay is very tight, polished and impressive once you get the hang of it. It's very unabashed in it's ridiculousness, which serves it well. There are few games I look back on with such fondness. ...And I've went on for a bit about it but honestly it is a wonderful game and I couldn't possibly praise it enough; if you have the chance to play it you should!

The fact that Lollipop Chainsaw is only $20 now is actually why I got it! I was surprised, too, but figured it was worth a try, and I'm glad I got it. Even though I also suck at QTEs.

I'm also surprised that Bayonetta is going for around $20 on Amazon now... I could have sworn that the last time I saw it it was still pretty close to full-price. Soon, Bayonetta... soon.
