I just checked and the Minnesota Department of Health says that Mayonnaise can kill lice, as well as petroleum jelly (vaseline) and oil, because those can suffocate lice. They say to put it on, put on a shower cap or something, and leave it in for 8 hours (it can work in shorter, but that's to make sure it's dead).

For nits, you need to remove them with a louse comb, but they say that a mixture of vinegar and water can help remove them, by soaking your hair in it for 30-60 minutes and then combing them out. They also say that the mayo/vaseline/oil treatment can help the the nit removal be easier.

I've never had lice but it doesn't sound fun. :(

I would honestly go with the petroleum jelly, over all other alternatives suggested. The longer you can leave it on (and make sure your head/hair is completely covered in cling wrap for the entire time. A few days of going over your whole head in sections with a fine-toothed comb, and you should be golden.

Ugh. I'm getting itch flashbacks. I had reactions to the bites, so imagine your whole head feeling like one giant mosquito bite. My condolences, your boss is a louse (pun fully intended).
