Me too

(Anonymous) 2013-03-28 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
The worst part are the ones where canon has ample opportunities for all kinds of clever fic, but 98% of what is written is "getting together" fic number ten thousand about the most popular m/m pairing.

How is that different from Western fandom?

Judging by the one western fandom I've quasi-followed: The fic is better written than in your average Jfandom, and at least a little more interesting to read.

Don't want to deal with immature weeaboos? GET OUT OF THE ANIME FANDOM.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-29 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
+1

or you could try to contribute the types of things/fic you'd like to see more of? but why do that when you can just sit on your ass and whine about what others are doing.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-28 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
true that, anon. oh well.

I'd rather put up with anime fanbrats than elitist assholes who are into sherlock and spn. at least the weaboos from ff.net are pretty friendly and welcoming.

Ha, did you just call everyone who's into Sherlock and SPN elitist assholes?

Hey, we supernatural fans are not all elitist. And if there are any, well I'm a much better fan than any of them!

Seriously though, I read the fic and look at the art without getting involved in anything, so I don't actually know what goes on in the discussion-y parts of fandom.

Thank you for helping me feel justified about my irrational prejudice against animanga fandom. I was starting to feel guilty about it.
There's really not a single western media fandom that interests you?

[identity profile] galerian-ash.livejournal.com 2013-03-28 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Why would that justify anything? It'd just mean that you are as foolish as they are.

Yep.

I only write for anime and manga fanoms.

I am 15 years too old to be a teenager.

According to this secret, I have no talent.

Well, shit. *throws her WIPs into the recycle bin and goes to watch some Sentinel, Doctor Who, and Teen Wolf, all in the hopes of growing up properly*

(Anonymous) 2013-03-29 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
In some J-Fandoms there are several talented writers, though :/

Dude, every fandom has immature people. You're just used to a certain sterotype of them that you don't see in live action fandoms as much. Like what you like.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-29 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
It's kind of funny, but most the animanga fans I meet in real life are pretty chill compared to online fans. Like one of my friends owns over 1000 different manga volumes*, but you'd never guess that she was even into animanga if you met her. And the part anime-y parts of the internet I go to have mostly casual fans. I mean, yeah, I've seen the loud obnoxious parts of the fandom, but avoid it for the most part. I guess I really haven't had much issue with the animanga fandom, beyond the anime club I went to in high school. I guess I'm doing it wrong?

*Not exaggerating, by the way. Dead serious.

as someone who's been going back and forth between j-fandom and western fandom for most of her life, this is interesting. i feel like there's plenty of talent in both if the series are the big popular ones. i think in my experience the tricky bit has been when i got sucked into the relatively unpopular/obscure ones where finding decent fanwork was a challenge, a large part of it being the language barrier, as in, easier to find more english fic for obscure western fandoms and easier to find japanese fancomics for obscure animanga fandoms (but it just sucks that i can't enjoy them the same way).

(Anonymous) 2013-03-29 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
i kind of agree. it's harder to find a variety of well-written fic, there's usually just one or two authors who end up being good. plus i'm tired of the teenage level of sexism in anime fandoms, either bashing female characters or bashing other female fans for being yaoi fangirls for liking m/m etc. i'm sick of it.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-01 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Late anon is late.

This is really weird - this is a repost of a secret I submitted a long time ago, but I didn't re-submit it. People actually keep old secret URLs and re-submit them?
