It's a superficial form of grieving, I think. I know I get sad when I see him today for the same reasons I get sad seeing Cary Elwes, Val Kilmer, Alec Baldwin, etc. It's not that he's a huge disgusting failblob or anything, everyone is entitled to a little weight fluctuation in their lives (especially as they get older) and as long as they're healthy, screw it, really. He's still a decent actor and a fun guy.

But still, it's hard not to lament the loss of his tight and chiseled hotness. Captain Tightpants is still in there, but he's not exactly the same and never will be again... *tear*

*sigh* I miss young!Cary Elwes. But the solution to that is to go watch The Princess Bride again, not to talk about how old/ugly/fat he is now.

Exactly. Princess Bride and Men in Tights. Forever.

...What? So the fact that someone is sad about people aging makes it okay to call him fat and ugly?

Nayrt. How on earth did you make that conclusion from that post? They said nothing of the kind.

No, it's still rude. But I thought I'd throw out a likely reason for why happens, since it's not (always) motivated by wanting to be a snarky bitch.

1) Cary Elwes looks -fine- right now. What the shit are you looking at?
2) Alec Baldwin also looks -fine-. He looks better than he did when he was younger, imo.
3) Val Kilmer may have chunked out a bit, but who cares? He's a giant dick so idgaf. He still looks fine as long as his hair isn't long and Brad Pitt-y.

I really hope you're having all those sad feels because "he's getting older and we're losing time with him" and not "he's getting older and therefore not as hot as they were when they were 22 boo hoo".

Of course, ignore if I'm missing the point and you're not lamenting the fact that they no longer have 20-year-old washboard abs.

I think Cary Elwes looks great, I felt like a weirdo when people were "mourning his hotness" on lj.

Maybe it's because I'm getting older too, but as hot as I found certain men back in the day, skinny young guys don't really do it for me anymore so I am completely fine with some older man hot.

Yeah, I kind of wonder if this is part of it too. Like, Cary Elwes, for me, is kind of a "mourn his hotness" kind of guy, but that's also because I saw Princess Bride when I was 14, and then immediately saw a picture of what he currently looked like, which was, well...doughy. Not actually fat or unattractive, but to a 14-year-old who'd just seen that whip-thin sexiness in the sexiest role of sexery, well...it was kind of a cold shower. And I get that way with a lot of actors who were past their young-hotness prime by the time I had a libido.

But for Fillion, I can see him getting kinda doughy, but it doesn't really bug me? I guess I'm less horrified by the idea of what happens as you get older now (still a little scared of 30 and all, but for myriad reasons).

Though Clark Gregg is my favorite older hottie.

It can be a shock to the system I understand, I grew up watching Cary Elwes movies and there was a large gap where I didn't see him so I did feel he looked very different when I started seeing him in movies again, but I adjusted pretty quickly. As anon before said he still looks good though.

Fillion kind of doughed up in the public eye, but it was bound to happen, like even in his Firefly/Serenity days he wasn't as skinny as he was in his modeling/two guys a girl and a pizza place days. Personally I never had a huge ladyboner for Fillion in the first place though so either way he's kind of cute but doesn't do it for me; from Firefly I was always more into Tudyk who looks super hot these days (at least to me.)

I saw Princess Bride when I was 7, and Cary Elwes was one of the first actors that I thought was literally sex-on-legs. I saw a picture of him when I was 17, and well... that was unfortunate. Mostly because he altered the fabric of my sexual universe at 7, and he did NOT look like the same guy.

I think a little bit of it might even be being upset that the viewer is realizing they're getting older too.

Nothing makes you realize your age more than seeing an aging heartthrob starting to show the signs of aging.
