I don't think there is a "history fandom" per se, at least not that I've ever found. Everyone has certain eras/countries/people/whatever that they are specifically interested in, so it'd be hard to have a general fandom.

It usually crops up during Yuletide. People nominate based on years and themes (like 19th-century composers for example), and people can easily find matching interests and make offers that way. I also see a lot of interest in Alexander/Hephaestion, though in fairness much of that is fanfic based on Mary Renault's books. And that goes for a lot of other so called fandoms -- I've seen several people gain an interest in Sibrand after playing Assassin's Creed, my own love for Arminius was rekindled thanks a French comic, etc.

I agree. Yuletide is usually the main venue, and now that it's hosted on AO3 that's a great place to look for fic as is the old defunct archive:
