During the Norman occupancy we see France basically having a part in his upbringing- teaching him to cook, etc. I don't see them as 'related' btw, but I think there's enough argument that they have a sibling like relationship as there is for those other pairs.

Except maybe Spamano, because Romano literally lived with Spain for most of his childhood and was closer to 'raised by him' than Chibitalia was by Austria imo (although again, I don't really see them as familial either). Not even like USUK (and presumably Franada I guess) where there were just occasional visits or whatnot. As for Franada, being that England wouldn't have gotten possession of him until 1759, wouldn't France have had him for at least century before that?

But basically I think that arguments that FrUK, USUK, Spamano, Franada, FranSeychelles, DenNor, etc. are 'incest' are all pretty out there and I disagree with all of them. *shrug*

Ehh, we're gonna have to agree to disagree. France may have taught England a few things here and there, but I never got the impression that he was an actual familial figure in his life. Like I said, more like neighbors than brothers.

I never really saw Romano as any more "raised by" Spain as Veneciano was "raised by" Austria. They may have been less formal than Austria and Italy, but Spain was always "the boss" and Romano as his "henchman." It's completely different than England and America, who actually considered each other brothers, lack of time together aside.

Hm. Some of them ping me as incestuous, but only in certain time periods. Like, USUK pre-Revolution =/= USUK post-Revolution, imo.

I think they were definitely closer to familial when they were kids than now. But that was like a thousand years ago so it's kind of irrelevant now (same goes for most other pairings who fall under a similar umbrella imo).

I think that Spain was A LOT more hands on than Austria though. While I'm sure that Austria looked out for Chibitalia, Spain clearly adored Romano and spent a ton of time with him. Austria seemed to just kind of deal with Italy when it was necessary. While I'm not part of the group that thinks Spain saw no fault in Chibimano, he was... really close to him. As for England and America considering each other brothers, that's up in the air though? England rejected the label of brother when he met him (due to him having negative associations with it), and America never addresses him as such. The closest we get is him saying "I'm not even your brother". In a WWII strip when asked if they're brothers they actually say "it's not like that". Although I'd rather see "they're brothers!" than "they're like father/son" which I'm not even sure where that comes from. And if someone wants to see any of these pairings as more familial in their view that's fine. I'm just kind of over "OMG EW" and people acting like it's canon and you're going against that if you ship them.

I don't like it as a pairing pre-revolution either, but for me it's actually the power-dynamic that is the issue. Pairing a young colony with the empire that controls him doesn't really scream equal relationship to me.
