Pretty much this. Especially if someone's a prolific artist of an OTP. The quality doesn't matter as long as teh hawt buttsex keeps on coming!

I know that feeling though, OP. There was an artist in my fandom who kept cranking out pictures of the main fandom OTP and people would lavish praise on her all day long even though the art wasn't really that great. It was also a cartoony style that had a lot of problems and she wouldn't take any sort of criticism seriously to try and improve on it. Eventually it came out that the artist had a really shitty personality and her popularity dropped pretty fast. She eventually left the fandom (thank god) and is now lurking around in another one.
