I really enjoy this musical/movie, but I'm the first one to admit that it's not for everyone. It doesn't really have a plot, so it can be boring to many and the characters are over-the-top caricatures, which a lot might consider stupid.

So there.
Just because it has a big fan folowing doesn't mean you have to get the same out of it. It's all okay ;)

Personally, I just adore the music and the theme of sexual liberation and blurring of the gender barrier (the person who wrote it and played Riff Raff is a crossdresser as far as I know).

The lack of plot really threw me off the first time I saw it when I was 13 until I realized that really wasn't the point. Now I can pretty much take or leave the movie, but I do appreciate the music.
