I love the hell out of RHPS and have seen a live production of it too at a very noisy, boisterous, awesome gay bar - but I have met a few people who genuinely didn't like it and can't get the hype. My theories on this are usually: people who don't like musicals (and a lot of people don't) and people (usually dudes) who are uncomfortable with all the, uh, gay/transexual stuff. So yeah, different strokes I guess.

I love musicals and adore my trans friends.

I'm still not into the movie/play.

I have no male friends who like this musical, sadly.
And the reason for it is the general "gayness" of it.

So I guess there's some truth to your theory :(
