This secret does seem pretty OTT, but I agree it can be really annoying when a fic is labeled gen or friendship fic and then hints at a pairing I don't like. A lot of writers of popular pairings throw in references to those pairings even in their "gen" (Steve/Tony and Destiel writers, I'm looking at you) without labeling it, and that bugs me.

But as everyone else has said, OP, you can backbutton and find something you like better! It doesn't have to be a big deal.
