I believe they are saying rather that they are worried that by blogging about such things, they will become the target of said SJW types, perhaps because of appropriation and the like.

Well I knew about the whole cultural appropriation(like wearing kimono's, "native feathers", etc) or weeaboo's who wish they were asian and shit. But I didn't know it's controversial to even like a picture of like... a temple or a cultures native dress. How is awareness of how other people live cultural appropriation?
(btw I'm not attacking anybody with this, just generally confused, so I guess I really am new)

Sorry, I didn't mean to confuse you. And I'm sorry for forgetting that sometimes we actually DO get new people here. I didn't mean to strike down what you said as though it was of no consequence. I was actually responding to your earnest reply to a sarcastic comment.

It's been so long since I've seen anyone misread Noodly's tone on here that I forget it is possible. His icons are an indicator of his tone, but if you read enough of his comments over time you get a feel for his personality and therefore his tone.

To be fair, I don't think that anon's comment was anything more then sarcasm. You know, because people always take things too far on the internet in everything ever, and you didn't know that? Well...

And to be clear, I don't agree with this viewpoint in the slightest. But I've seen it before. Some folks take the idea entirely too far, beyond reasonable things like you mentioned to dumb stuff like "Boy I sure love this cuisine." or "Man I wish I had (Refers to ethinic clothing)." Personally, I don't think wearing a Kimono in and of itself is appropriation though. And Cosplaying NEVER should count.

it's funny, 'cause when I told my Korean friends that I thought hanboks are super pretty, they were all WE WILL BUY YOU ONE FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY =DDDD
So I will enjoy that hanbok, and feel zero guilt.

I suppose it helps that I'm from a country which has no negative history with Korea, and also an East Asian Studies major focusing on Korean culture....
But it's amazing the difference between what's acceptable online and what's acceptable in the Real World.

Unagi is the best. I don't even really like sushi but unagi is just delicious. It's an amazing food. Let's be real.
