Came across a fic a while back that had a non-con warning, and as I actually like reading non-con fics (treated seriously, though, not as a "kink" or whatever), I checked it out. Turned out the non-con was only mentioned. As in, a character told another character that she knew someone who'd once been raped. That's it. There was no talk of the rape, no vague or detailed description, nothing. Just an "I knew someone who'd been raped" (because one of the other characters had been complaining about a drunken kiss with someone she hated being the worst thing that could possibly happen to someone/sexual harassment status (both characters had been drunk, though).

I understand maybe making a note in the warnings with something along the lines of "past, off-screen non-con mentioned very briefly in no detail whatsoever", but actually slapping a non-con warning on it? Seriously?

The fic was such a waste of time. Couldn't even enjoy it because it freaking falsely advertised.

IF YOUR FIC DOESN'T CONTAIN ACTUAL DUB/NON-CON, DON'T WARN FOR IT, JESUS.

There's a happy medium: "mention of noncon". Or, "light/passing/intense discussion of noncon". Or "implied noncon." Or....

Now if only people would use it. :(
