If a fic writer writes A/B all the time in every kind of story they can think of, but then they write one or two standalone stories of A/C or B/D or whatev, I'm actually pretty interested to see how they handle those pairings in the sidestories because they're obviously not just churning out another A/B, you know? They consciously stopped to write A/C because they had an idea for those characters, or wanted to look at their relationship in particular.
