I just read Wonder Boys for the first time this year, and not quite 1/3 of the way into it, I was all, "Huh, Chabon restrained himself and didn't write any Jewish characters!" Then literally the very next chapter, his father in law called and mentioned Passover and I knew we were going to see that. The guy can't help himself!

Then I watched the movie and as I said above, I was expecting like, Sandra Oh as Emily, and was a bit put out not to get it. Surprisingly faithful adaptation aside from cutting that subplot, though.

Oh, yeah. I do adore both the movie and the book. There were some bits that made it into the movie that really surprised me, because woah all right. I adore Antonia, and thought they handled that really well. She wasn't there as a joke, and was just there as she was in the book. Some poor young thing for Crabtree to seduce before moving onto James.

Sandra Oh as Emily could have been amazing. New headcanon.
