Part of the problem is that Horuss is so desperate for validation and praise that he probably took 'you should smile more!' as a command to "smile all the time!'. I think with better communication they could be health moirails but unfortunately with Kurloz having a lot of sway over Meulin mind I can't see the relationship going anywhere good.

I sort of like them but I like relationship that take work and aren't all sunshine and roses.

Yeah, pretty much. For some reason I'm kind of creeped out by exact analogue pairings between pairs on each side of the Scratch - I like KarEzi and am hoping Latula stays with Mituna rather than ending up with Kankri, for example. I can ship those pairs, but only if their respective dancestors aren't together in the same quadrant at the same time. The best word I could come up with for why was "incestuous", but actual incest doesn't bother me, at least between trolls (speaking of which, anyone got any good Nitramcest? I would die of squee). Maybe it smacks to me of not acknowledging the dancestor pairs as separate people, I don't know...

I agree with pretty much this whole comment, but mostly I'm just replying to say that wow, nothing in that entire paragraph would make any sense whatsoever to someone who is unfamiliar with Homestuck.

If I'm interpreting it correctly, he doesn't want to ship two characters if their direct ancestors had a similar relationship with each other. Is that accurate?

Sort of, although "ancestor" means something a little different for trolls, and "dancestor" is actually a portmanteau for descendant/ancestor, which characters are for each other simultaneously.

I think it's also because they're trying to force it, because they saw how good Equius and Nepeta were together. They're pretty much dooming themselves to failure.
