Right? I made the mistake of reading the #Teen Wolf tag on tumblr and I was suddenly in a land of delusion and denial. The amount of crazy was unsettling.

Everyone sees their show differently, but there's a difference between different interpretations and delusion.

That happened to me the other day! The exact same thing! I didn't realize how small my little area of sane fandom was and how skewed my view of it was until I looked at the tumblr tags and... and I felt ashamed I had ever defended it here.

Everyone sees their show differently, but there's a difference between different interpretations and delusion.

Yes. I definitely agree. For example, when everyone was talking a few days ago here about interpreting that scene with Derek and Erica differently. That was cool and fine. It was all different views on what it meant/tried to mean. I may or may not agree with them but it was interesting and I could see why or how they came up with their interpretations. But, say, a lot of sterek fans on tumblr? They were infuriated when a reporter said that their ship probably wasn't possible and blew the biggest gasket I have seen in a while. There were these long rants about how they were right and oppressed and so on and so forth. I'm just like, what in the world? Are we watching the same show? And I ask this as someone who, in general, likes the ship itself.

I am waiting for a friend of mine to come to your realisation. I made the mistake of entering fandom with no warnings and liking the 'wrong' things. I've gotten a full dosage of sterek fandom's crazy. Every time I bitch about it, usually when something has riled them (journalists, some poll, S3's female love interests, the cast being unenthusiastic, etc.) she gets defensive & says I'm hating because her tumblr is full of lovely mature people who like it but don't expect anything. It's all well and good when you follow 4 of your friends you know well but it really isn't a generalisation that this fandom is an entitled nightmare.

Ugh, I'm sorry. How about you show her the ugly? Maybe then she'll realize your reaction to the crazy that is Teen Wolf fandom at large is legitimate.

Because really, you can only venture so far before you want to claw your own eyes out.

(Honestly though, I don't think you could love the show for the wrong reasons. I bet those people would say I like it for the wrong reasons too. That's just ridiculous.)

Yeah, I mean I'm pretty much a lurker in the fandom but I hadn't really realized how small a group even my lurking was in.

I feel a little bad because I too had defended the fandom at one point, not knowing the full extent of the crazy. But some of those Sterek fans....yeah. There's actually one girl I'm following that seemed pretty normal when I started but she has slowly gotten crazier, now writing long meta-y posts about how Sterek should definitely be in season 3 and how it's all about queer visibility and it's a straight up homophobic insult to the fans to not put it in there and not talk about it outright....I actually stopped following her today.

Oh yeah, me too.

Oh snap, that sucks. Well good for you for unfollowing her. I hope she gets... uh... better? I'm sorry.

(I'm hoping with season three sterek loses some of its strength somehow. Because it's fans, even though I technically am one, are really freaking me out.)
