Who roots against mainstream queer representation because of a shipping grudge?

lol as if that's the major reason D/C shippers would like it to happen. When these ship wars and canon questions pop up, the one thing I would like would be if the majority would stop pretending they give two fucks about queer representation. Just admit it's down to who you want to see macking.

ayrt

Oh, no doubt there are a lot of straight D/C fans out there who just want their ship to be canon but there are also queer fans out there who just want representation, as well as fans who don't ship it but still want representation (see fans like me who don't ship D/C but still want Dean to be acknowledged in canon as bi). Their voices shouldn't be silenced just because some fans only want bisexual!Dean for selfish, ship-based reasons.

And at the end of the day, one group's selfish desires leads to something positive (more representation of queer characters in mainstream media) while the other groups selfish desires (not having bi!Dean because they don't want D/C shippers to be happy about it) leads to something else entirely. When it comes down to it, I'm going to side with whichever group gives me more representation, not less. I'd take that even if it meant Dean/Cas became canon. I doubt D/C being canon would actually make those shippers happy in the long run (has any romantic relationship on this show not ended in blood, sweat, and tears? Also usually stabbings and fire and death?), but it gives me another canon bi character which I can always get behind.

And, well, so what if Dean/Cas did become canon? I shipped Sam/Dean when Dean/Lisa was canon or Sam/Ruby or Dean/Cassie. I shipped it when Jo had her very obvious crush on Dean and when Dean became interested in reciprocating. I can still ship Sam/Dean even if Dean/Cas was tossed in the canon mix.
