I'm sitting here trying to decide whether or not OP meant to say "postpone". "Prolonging" its death just sounds cruel, but maybe that's why it's a secret?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-01 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, yeah I think OP meant postpone.

This has happened to me a couple times so I know how much it sucks.

That's a feeling I know all too well. Hang in there OP.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-01 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Been there. Sometimes you just have to let it go, OP, and keep hold of the good memories you have. I know it doesn't seem like it right now, but you'll find another fandom that you're just as fond of.

Or like maybe you won't, or like me, it'll take years and you'll be almost out of fandom entirely but be dragged back all of the sudden when you should know better.

That's what's happening to my main one, too, OP. :(

(Anonymous) 2013-04-01 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Same here. Very sad.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-01 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Every fandom dies. Mine is on the point where it is just the Spanish keeping it alive, so dead for all real purposes. I hope yours lasts a little longer, but even the once mighty Potter fandom is winding down, so all things will pass.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-01 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
It's sad, isn't it?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-01 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
OP, I don't know what your fandom is, but I am sad also now that it is dying, if only because your fandom has at least one member who knows how to use it's and its correctly, and I think that's one more than the majority of internet fandoms.

I know how that feels. Sucks, doesn't it? There comes a point, though, where you just have to accept reality and let it die with whatever dignity it may or may not have left, assuming it had any to begin with (mine usually don't).

(Anonymous) 2013-04-02 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
My fandom is pretty much dead and it makes me very mournful. The people! the squeeing! The pretty! The smut! Sure there were wanks but it was mostly superfantastic.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-02 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
OP, I understand your pain. It's the same in my fandom. Sometimes I feel like that kid in the story 'The Rocking Horse Winner', rocking, rocking, rocking, desperately trying to breathe life into something moribund until I'm exhausted, frustrated and sad. But I still love my OTP so much that I can't let go of the fandom, even though I should, and you probably should, too. :/

Never been in a dying fandom before, but hang in there, OP. :(

(Anonymous) 2013-04-02 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
All my fandoms are dead. My only online fandom stuff now is lurkish - reading F!S, reading fic by people I don't know, waiting for the next wank report to be posted at fandom_wank. And watching and falling in love with old movies and tv shows I've never watched before, only to discover that those fandoms are dead, too.

It's lonely and sad out here, in the land of the dead.

I've had many fandoms die before, and it's not like I liked it, but I accepted it. I hate that the Legend of the Seeker fandom died, though. (Well, I suppose it isn't entirely dead, but it's definitely not where it was, understandably.) I loved that fandom and its attitudes more than any other I've been in. Sigh.... Oh well. It happens. But, yeah, I can so empathize. Good luck with it.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-02 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's how I feel about the Harry Potter fandom (I'm in the Drarry & Snarry corner). While lots of fics are pushed out somewhat regularly thanks to fests and such, pretty much everything you can think of has been done (and no one's really making the effort to push the fandom's imagination boundaries, so). And sure there's still quite a bit of activity, but it's so stale. There's nothing new to discuss or to squee about, and the quality of the fic decreases every year. There are a handful of great fandoms still hanging on, but for the most part the majority of the writers (and artists) are either mediocre at best or downright awful at worst.

I was in the fandom for a good 6 or so years before I bowed out. I check out the more active communities/fests a few times a year, but that's the extent of my participation (mind, I used to participate a lot). Seeing the way everyone so desperately tried to hang on--not to mention all the pettiness that erupted in the past few years--made me unbelievably sad so I had to go.

So yeah, I know exactly how you feel.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-02 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
I know the feeling, but don't worry. Once you take your eyes off of it for a year or so and check back up there might be some new blood. I've had a couple of fandoms die out for awhile but eventually some other people might be late on the train and keep things go for awhile longer.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-02 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
i feel you, op, it's always a bummer when that happens, especially slowly watching it happen and knowing you can't change it.

I feel the same way about Potter fandom. Nothing else will ever feel the same to me, either, so once it does die, I'll have nothing left to do on the internet. :(
