Oh, that's how I feel about the Harry Potter fandom (I'm in the Drarry & Snarry corner). While lots of fics are pushed out somewhat regularly thanks to fests and such, pretty much everything you can think of has been done (and no one's really making the effort to push the fandom's imagination boundaries, so). And sure there's still quite a bit of activity, but it's so stale. There's nothing new to discuss or to squee about, and the quality of the fic decreases every year. There are a handful of great fandoms still hanging on, but for the most part the majority of the writers (and artists) are either mediocre at best or downright awful at worst.

I was in the fandom for a good 6 or so years before I bowed out. I check out the more active communities/fests a few times a year, but that's the extent of my participation (mind, I used to participate a lot). Seeing the way everyone so desperately tried to hang on--not to mention all the pettiness that erupted in the past few years--made me unbelievably sad so I had to go.

So yeah, I know exactly how you feel.
