Seriously, how are people not aware by this point that authors almost never have any control over their cover art?

The fact that the publisher thought an extremely skinny woman on the cover would sell better than a plus-sized one has no relevance to the content created by the author. The one thing has no bearing on the other.

We had a secret about that very point not that long ago. (Can't remember the series - pretty sure it wasn't this one, since the cover was in a completely different style and format - but it was about a plus-sized character, who the cover artist insisted on drawing skinny.)

I recall a secret about the Parasol Protectorate series by the same author here with that issue, and/or debate over whether the character was actually intended to be plus-sized at all, since it was really rather ambiguous.
