No matter how reprehensible and disgusting a character's actions, there will always be a group of people willing to excuse them. It hurts to think about, but it's something you have to get over.

Though, are you sure you're not confusing people liking a character a lot with approval? Dunno if I've ever seen someone say what Adachi did was okay...

Using this as a general reply to several posts:

There was a secret a long while back by someone who sympathized with Adachi and wished the game had provided the option to join him. (This was well before the remake provided you the option to do just that.)

I agree and I'm a fan all of them. People actually approve their actions? That's really fucked up. Although I find it kinda weird that you would Izaya on the same level as straight-up murderers. Yeah he's a bad dude, but he hasn't killed anybody.

Thinking about it, I can kinda see how Makishima's actions could be "excused" since they live in a fucked up society, but how can anybody approve of Adachi's actions? He just straight up murdered girls because they weren't into him.

I don't know who that last guy is, but my sister and I become enraged at the mention of the first one and the second one is...a cool character, but if met someone like him in real life I would probably head for the hills.

I mean, if you like these guys as characters, cool...but, yeah, if some people out there actually think they're stand-up guys, I'm concerned.

Wha-, I've been in the P4 fandom since the very start and I have never seen even one person straight-up justify his action? Put him in leather pants, sure, but never once I have seen people justify his murders.

Or Clive Dove, but I've only seen one fan actually approve of his actions. Everyone else just thinks he's hot and gets out of prison in three years even though that makes no sense given what he did.

I only recognize the 2nd and the 3rd. Izaya Orihara from Durarara and Makishima Shougo from Psycho-Pass. Izaya spends most of Durarara manipulating everyone else into doing what he wants while he watches in glee. SPOILERS ------------------ Makishima tries to destroy the AI system that controls his dystopian, futuristic society. In the process, lots of people get killed. He actually murders quite a few innocents himself just for fun.

Izaya (middle) trolls girls into committing suicide, and takes amusement in it. Alongside doing everything he can to ruin a guys life. Oh and some stuff with gangs and creating citywide disorder I guess.

Makishima (right) supports serial killers, and ferments city wide riots in an attempt to destroy the dystopian system. I can actually see the defense of him, but the problem is that fundamentally he isn't interest in any kind of utilitarian goal, rather very specific and much harder to defend ones.

The first is Adachi from Persona 4 (endgame spoilers but it's already kind of out in the open from the secret) he nearly-raped and then murdered two women, orchestrated the failed murder attempts on several more people. He's selfish and a bit delusional and a very interesting character but there's really no justifying his shit

The first one is Tohru Adachi, a police officer in the small town where the game is set (and the partner of the player character's uncle). He basically has the ability to push people into another dimension, where they'll die if not rescued within a certain time period. He also manipulates another (not particularly stable) man into kidnapping his victims for him, up to and including his partner's six-year-old daughter.

I kind of want to hear someone try and defend Izaya and see their logic, if there is any. I mean, he's a really fun villain, but approve of his actions?

Most of the Psycho Pass fandom I've seen on tumblr is full of Makishima defenders. It makes me kind of sad, I just didn't enjoy him as a character at all. :(

Yeahhhh this. I'm only familiar with two and three, but Izaya is an ass just to be an ass and just because you agree with Makashima's feelings on the Sybil system doesn't mean you should defend or justify the way he goes about expressing those. Enabling really fucked up murders, causing giant city-wide riots, and murdering multiple innocents himself? Sorry, no. He's a terrible, terrible person.
