Okay. I'm not Asian American. I don't have a dog in this fight. This post is from a Chinese American. I agree with this person surprisingly often.

...But man, this post got right up under my skin. Everything except the last point baffles me. It also promotes a bunch of little SJW-isms that make me really mad.

The thing that really strikes me is that the author's ideas surrounding the concept of the "Model Minority" completely miss the mark. East Asian people are not considered a Model Minority because they are subservient; they are considered a Model Minority because they're viewed as highly intelligent, successful, and affluent. They're considered to have achieved and prospered from the American dream. That's why they're used in comparison to more marginalized groups: "why are you so poor, black person? This Asian person I know has a PhD and is a renowned doctor at a prestigious hospital!"

I'm also actually bothered by the cry for "pan-Asian solidarity." What does a Korean person have in common with an Indian person? Nothing, apart from the fact that someone, at some point in history, decided that both of their nations resided in the nebulous construct of "Asia." I think it would actually be disingenuous, and potentially harmful, to push the two together.

So, overall, I think s/he makes a few good points (such as that Asian individuals are used by bigots to marginalize other groups), but I also think that s/he's a bit off-base.
