My random shit?

Had a person today tell me that hiragana and katakana aren't "real Japanese."

What.

So two writing systems that were developed in Japan and that are used by Japanese people and that are kind of necessary to form a complete sentence in Japanese are not "real Japanese." OKAY SURE.

He was insufferably smug about knowing lots of kanji, and it's like, that's fucking great but it doesn't mean you can completely dismiss other portions of the language and act superior for doing so. GAAAH.

WHAT'S YOUR RANDOM SHIT, F!S? Who pissed you off today? Why did that person piss you off? Why is that person a fucking idiot? Rant to your heart's content! Get it out!

I saw someone (online) get pissy because someone else said that the Holocaust was worse than chicken farming (they were referring to PETA's trying to equate the two) and apparently chickens are exactly the same as people according to crazy!vegan anon.

I got yelled at today because one of the people I live with wanted me to eat breakfast before changing out of PJs. However, I wanted to change out of PJs first before eating breakfast. Apparently that was "improper" or something.

Okay. I'm not Asian American. I don't have a dog in this fight. This post is from a Chinese American. I agree with this person surprisingly often.

I once had someone telling me that saying a character is not canonically bisexual (ftr, this character isn't) is the exact same as someone telling a queer person irl that they're not queer because they say so. Because "denying" the sexuality of a fictional character is the same as denying the sexuality of a real person. Or something.

Funny... You can write complete and grammatically correct sentences using only hiragana and katakana, but you can't do so with kanji. But apparently the parts that can stand on their own aren't the real part of the language? Okay. I'd like to see this dude actually try to get around in Japan with that mindset.

Today at work, I passed by a construction worker customer and said hello (just as a friendly customer-relations thing we're supposed to do). He responded with, "Hello, darling!" I promptly scurried away and resisted the urge to scream because AAAAAAUGH EW. I know he was just being friendly and all, but damn if extremely gendered things like that don't trigger my dysphoria right quick. Not to mention it's just fucking creepy; dude's twice my size and calling me "darling" - I actually felt a little intimidated! I don't think that's what you were going for, sir, so please cut it out!

I met this guy who told me he used to be anorexic and then went on to explain to me how male anorexics are super rare and mysterious special snowflakes and nobody really knows why men get anorexia and how it's really like a completely separate issue from female anorexia.

I didn't say anything. Just smiled and nodded and tried to contain my eye rolling.

I realised today that I am unemployable in my current physical, mental, and educational state, and I don't know if I can do anything to change things. Concurrently, I'm not eligible for financial assistance. Whoop de fucking do.

I hate it when librarians give me weird looks for requesting large-print books. And when they say things like "Aren't you too young to take these out?"

Stop pressuring me to start dating. I don't want to meet your friend, I don't want to ask my coworker or best friend's girlfriend if she has someone I'd be perfect for, I don't want to start Internet dating, and I don't want to ask out the woman at the register who's clearly in to me.

I don't have the emotional intellect necessary to maintain a relationship, and I'm far too emotionally fragile to deal with the resulting breakup.

I know this. When I found out that none of the coworkers that I thought were my friends really liked me, it destroyed me. I'm still reeling from it five years and a change of state (and, thus, coworkers) later. I can barely imagine the pain if I was genuinely attached to the person.

Oh, also this Easter Kinder decided to make gendered eggs, because nothing screams gender like chocolate!!1 (I know, I know, it's the surprise what it's different). I have been seeing them in stores and feel sad because this gendered pink/blue frenzy is starting to catch on here. Yesterday a politician commented on this on Twitter and was made fun EVERYWHERE, it made me sad because I felt like every news programme laughing at her was laughing at me ://

i recently got into A Thing. i love it a lot, talk about it on twitter, reblog on tumblr. none of my friends give a shit. which is fine, i mean, we don't have to like all the same stuff. kind of lonely but fine.

person that i follow on tumblr (but isn't following me) also gets into A Thing. now my dash is full of them enjoying it and having fun with a lot of their friends who also have become fans of A Thing.

idk why but it is seriously pissing me off and making me sad at the same time. it always feels like this is my fandom experience. WHY DO I ONLY GET TO WATCH OTHER PEOPLE HAVE FUN AND NOT DO IT MYSELF? >:(

I'm a better friend to most of my friends than they are to me. The person I usually think of as my best friend...I just realized today that they usually only turn to me about something if they don't have anyone else to turn to. Sometimes it's about needing help or it could be a new interest that they've told all of their other friends about and none of them liked. The fact that I'm the first person they turn to when they need help and the last person they turn to when they want to share something good really pisses me off. A lot of times they don't tell me major stuff that happened in their life and then they need help with something relating to it and that's when I finally learn about the major thing. This has happened with everything from changing universities (found that out when a gift I sent was returned) to getting a new job to MOVING TO ANOTHER COUNTRY, which I just learned about a couple hours ago. I am so incredibly hurt and angry right now.

My cat Kotori, 10 years old now, has some issues. I flipped my mattress over at the beginning of the month, and she completely freaked out on me. It's not like she's never seen me do this before I did it a few times where we lived previously and she was always fine, sometimes even in the way. Now in our new house, however she just couldn't deal.

As far as she's concerned since we've moved into the house I've also developed the amazing ability to transform into a terrifying stranger just be being downstairs in the kitchen. other than that she's her normal self all the time. I don't even know.

I am getting tired of the social justice brigade on tumblr.

I was having an argument with this one poster on the topic of Native Americans and US immigration reform. According to her, all white people should go back to where ever they came from because they are illegal immigrants. To which, I replied that this country isn't just a white country (Never was) and what about the rest of the immigrant groups who have come and settled here, taking lands that weren't originally theirs either. (NYC Chinatown sits on Wappinger land after all.) Should they give it back as well? I got called racist for that. But to me, that just said she didn't know what she was talking about.

But I am tired how it's always the "white man" who who is illegal and should go home. I think it's because I come from a very mix city with a high fresh off the plane Central African and Korean population. I found it odd that it's the whites that would be pushed out of their homes, many of which who have been here for generations, while everyone else gets to stay.

My cousin was boasting about how she was a self-made woman, and didn't have middleclass privilege, because her mother was bankrupt, and when I offered to network her with a mate who could get a job she blew it off because of the nature of the work.

I had to bite my tongue whilst thinking 'my family is putting you and your mother up at great expensive, and it's been over a year and you haven't had an actual job, just two brief internships, you can't fucking afford to turn things down'.

I know it's ironic coming from me of all people, but she needs a fucking reality check, and a readjustment of her priorities.

I love my friends, I do. This didn't so much as piss me off, as much as make me sigh. As usual, they invited themselves over to my house today. I just wanted a boring night filled with me playing Harvest Moon: Animal Parade. Now I'll probably be up late and no HM for me.

I know I'll have a fun time with them (I saw one of them yesterday and it was fun as we watched a really bad movie together), but sometimes I'd like to have input before they invite themselves over.

No one pissed me off today, but my computer did. It's a 7 year old MacBook that's had a good life but now it locks up on me a lot and I can't afford a new one. I could get an Air since they're the cheapest but even then affording one is a few months away and I don't have a desktop. Ughhh. :(

Is there some definition of "white" that means "born in the US"? Because I have two white, European-born (but moved to the US as very small children) friends who speak only English with American accents, but because they weren't born here they don't count as white for some reason. It confuses me, and makes me a little irrationally angry, especially since one likes to use his supposed "non-whiteness" as proof that he's oppressed, when everyone we know treats him exactly like every other rich white straight guy out there. And of course, according to him, I know nothing about being discriminated against despite being a queer female. Arg.

A long time ago my dad had a book with an interesting cover that drew my attention. It was an old paperback that looked like the pulp fiction novels and it had a drawing of an airplane flying over storm clouds at night. It sat on the little table next to his spot on the couch for a long time and I finally decided to read it. I wound up loving it and asked him if I could keep it, but it turned out he'd borrowed it from someone at work and had returned it. I never wrote down the name or author and have never been able to find it since. I so badly want to find that book and over the years it's become about finding it just for the sake of finding it, just because I haven't been able to.

There are a bunch of tumblr-famous users that piss me off sometimes, which is silly because they don't do or say anything horrible. To me they just sort of come off as condescending even when they mean well (well, one of them, the other comes off as a narcissist that makes fucking horrible jokes and then complaints when they go viral)

And then there's this other one who i mostly like but sometimes they accuse people of acting a certain way and it's like, pal, you do the same sometimes, quit acting like the attitude police when you're not perfect.

I don't follow these people for these reasons, why do they keep showing up in my dash anyways??

Some couple thought because I was nice and polite I had to be religious, and the kind of religious who would sign a petition to keep marriage between "Man, wife, and God." I was on the job too so I couldn't even make a crack about polygamy. I just said "Oh, sorry. I can't do that while I'm on the clock." The husband offered me a card to call his church after I got offwork so I just said "You really don't want me to do that," then smiled fakely and told them to have a good day.

In retrospect I'm kind of weirdly chafing at the fact people phrase it as "Man and wife.

I got some really racist vibes from them too because they had waved off three (non-white) baggers before flagging me down to ask for a carryout and then kept mentioning about how happy they were my store was hiring "good, sweet girls to help the customers now". I didn't really know what to say to that so I said I hoped to live up to the example of the senior girls. :/

Well, one thing that made me want to rant (but I refrained) was when I saw my favorite sports team's Facebook account post about autism awareness month, and one of the first comments was someone going "I blame all these vaccines with mercury in them." I wished I could take the little thumbs-up from the "like" icon on that post and open the hand and smack them across the face with it. Or at least facepalm. Or use it to grab some popcorn and *popcorn.gif*. But I know better than to say a thing.

Actually, on that same subject, something that didn't ANGER me, but kinda made me go "WTF." was a graphic someone else shared on Facebook regarding autism awareness. It said something about how autism didn't prevent Newton, Einstein, Mozart, or Temple Grandin from achieving their dreams. And while I approve of the general message, I think that's going to be lost on anyone who isn't already somewhat acquainted with autism awareness culture, because they're all going to be going "...Temple Grandin...?" She's great and all, but it's kind of like making a list of books and it reads "War and Peace, Great Expectations, Jane Eyre, Moby Dick, and Dragons of Autumn Twilight".
