I met this guy who told me he used to be anorexic and then went on to explain to me how male anorexics are super rare and mysterious special snowflakes and nobody really knows why men get anorexia and how it's really like a completely separate issue from female anorexia.

I didn't say anything. Just smiled and nodded and tried to contain my eye rolling.

...if I had to guess, I'd say men get anorexia for the same reasons women do. And I'd say that because the reasons are right there in the definition.

Pretty much, yeah. Anorexia affects women more often than men, yes, but that's because there's a lot more societal pressure on women to be skinny than there is on men, but as a fat-phobic society in general, there is still pressure there. And it's still the same disorder.
