My cousin was boasting about how she was a self-made woman, and didn't have middleclass privilege, because her mother was bankrupt, and when I offered to network her with a mate who could get a job she blew it off because of the nature of the work.

I had to bite my tongue whilst thinking 'my family is putting you and your mother up at great expensive, and it's been over a year and you haven't had an actual job, just two brief internships, you can't fucking afford to turn things down'.

I know it's ironic coming from me of all people, but she needs a fucking reality check, and a readjustment of her priorities.

I don't know, I can see both sides of this. It sucks majorly for you and your family that you're putting them up at great expense and here she is turning her nose up at something. But I can also see that if I were in her position and someone made the offer you did that I might turn it down depending on the nature of the work. Not everyone is cut out for every kind of job. If she's had internships during that time, it sounds like she's in a specific career field and what you're offering is outside of that. I don't know the details and I'm not passing judgement.

It sounds to me like the situation sucks for all of you and I hope it gets better soon.

Two, for a total span of five weeks. One was two weeks like last november, and this one has lasted three weeks and is just about to come to an end. With nothing lined up after it.

What you're saying is true to an extent, it's just she's admitted she doesn't have any set strong feelings about pursuing the career she's trying to break into, and it's incredibly competitive and this is literally all she has in the field.

And that's part of a long pattern of behaviour in which she's turned down previous jobs I've offered her over the summer whilst she was at Uni to give her at least some work experience (she's early twenties and has literally nothing) which she's turned down citing some vague possibility planning to do an internship that never materialized, and ended up bumming about at home.

Throughout which, she still spends money like her family has it, going out frequently with friends, and not bothering to collect JSA when she's not currently doing an internship.

You and your family are wonderful to take them in. It sucks that she isn't doing anything to at least alleviate the financial pressure it's put on your family. That she's putting extra financial pressure on you all by being so frivolous must be frustrating beyond belief.
