Grandma is deaf and my mom and I are both too phone-awkward (that's a thing, REALLY) for actual phone conversations. When we did talk it was all:

Mom: Hi! How's Mexico treating you? You still alive?
Me: Yup! The water here isn't SO bad. (*lies*)
Mom: Good to hear. So, um, I'm gonna let you go...
Me: Ok. Um, miss you, bye!
Mom: Love ya, miss ya, bye!
